Today I called my dad after class and he told me the news: Notre Dame de Paris is on fire. I am so sad for not only Paris, not only Catholics, but for the world. We are losing such a great piece of history. Being at the cathedral only a couple weeks ago, I am in disbelief.
The Notre Dame de Paris was built in the 12th century and has seen numerous historical moments. This Cathedral has seen so many coronations, marriages, and vows made by those who shaped France and Paris into what it is today. This is the cathedral where Napoleon Bonaparte, or Napoleon I, crowned himself emperor. It sits in the middle of Paris and shows that it is the heart of Paris itself.
While much will be lost in the fire, Paris will rebuild its beloved cathedral. Our Lady of Paris will continue to grace the skyline of its city.
